What is Reiki? And how can it help?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a deeply calming form of energy healing that works by gently encouraging the body’s natural ability to rest, release, and restore.

It may sound mysterious at first, how can healing happen without physical manipulation? But here’s what it comes down to: your body already knows how to heal. Reiki simply creates the energetic conditions that support that healing process.

It works with what’s often called universal life force energy, a natural, non-religious energy that flows through everything living. When stress, trauma, or emotional strain disrupt that flow, we can begin to feel tired, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Reiki helps to re-open and rebalance those energetic pathways, gently clearing blockages and restoring harmony.

You don’t need to understand how it works for it to be effective. Reiki is a subtle, safe, and non-invasive way to support your emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.

What happens during a Reiki session?

When you arrive you’ll be welcomed into a peaceful, nurturing space. After a short conversation about how you’re feeling, you’ll lie fully clothed on the therapy couch and simply relax.

I work intuitively, placing my hands gently on or just above specific areas of the body. You may feel warmth, tingling, waves of energy, or simply a deep sense of peace.

Some people fall asleep. Others release emotion or gain powerful insight. There’s no pressure to experience it in any specific way, it will work with your energy exactly as it needs to.

If helpful, I may guide you through gentle grounding or visualisation during your session, especially if you’re carrying a lot of stress or tension.

You’re welcome to share your experience afterwards, or sit quietly in stillness. This is your time.

How can Reiki support me?

Reiki is especially helpful if you’re:

  • Struggling with stress, anxiety, or emotional overload
  • Recovering from illness or trauma (physical or emotional)
  • Feeling blocked, stuck, or disconnected from yourself
  • Longing for stillness, insight, or spiritual reconnection
  • Looking for a gentle, non-touch way to experience healing

 

Reiki is not a cure or a replacement for medical care, but it works beautifully alongside other therapies, complementing everything from counselling to medication, physical therapy to spiritual practice.

All Reiki sessions are held by a fully qualified, insured, and IPHM accredited practitioner, with experience supporting sensitive, empathic, and neurodivergent clients. You’ll be held in a safe, non-judgemental space where healing can unfold in its own way and its own time.
